Getting There and Away
The nearest major airport, Denver International Airport (DIA), is an approximate 40-minute drive from downtown Boulder where we recommend our guests stay. A bus regularly runs from DIA to Downtown Boulder Station, which is a short walk from both hotels. Private shuttles, rideshare, and taxi services also service Boulder to and from DIA. While you may wish to consider renting a car, you will not need one: we will be providing shuttle services to and from the Ceremony, Dinner & Dancing, and all of the other wedding events will be within easy walking distance of each other in downtown Boulder.
For local guests driving to the Ceremony, Dinner & Dancing at Planet Bluegrass in Lyons, you can use the map and link below to generate directions (just click on the red pin). There will be parking on-site. That said, please be careful as the roads are narrow and the entrance is easy to miss from the road!
Rain or Shine
Colorado in September is beautiful, but the weather can be a bit unpredictable. Here are a few things you should consider bringing to account for all the possibilities:
- A light layer or wrap for the evenings;
- An umbrella or light rain jacket in case of showers;
- Strong sunblock (though we'll provide some as well);
- Sunglasses.
Altitude
They call Denver "Mile High City" for a reason (not the one you're thinking of), and Boulder's no lower! Being up in the mountains can affect people in unexpected ways; here are a few things you can do to help prevent the altitude from impacting your trip:
- Start drinking extra water several days before you arrive, and be sure to stay well-hydrated throughout your stay;
- Take it slow while drinking -- alcohol will hit you harder and faster than it does at sea level, and the hangovers are worse;
- Get plenty of rest and ease into exercise until you adjust;
- Use ibuprofen and other over-the-counter medicines to ease some of the minor symptoms of altitude sickness (e.g., headache, upset stomach);
- Eat a lot of carbohydrates;
- If you can, arrive a bit early and give yourself some time to acclimate;
- In the event that you get a bad case of altitude sickness (or hangover), nearby Denver has some creative treatments that are supposed to work wonders!
You can find more information on altitude sickness here and here. The effects should be minor at worst, but take steps to prepare so it doesn't keep you from enjoying the celebration!
